Gold Fever

Scott Kleine showed an entire collection of 20 Nevada gold specimens in the Great Basin Minerals Room 169 at the Arizona Mineral and Fossil Show at the InnSuites Hotel. Photographs of twelve of the specimens from this collection were recently featured in an article by Scott on "Specimen Gold from the Olinghouse District, Washoe County, Nevada" appearing the January/February 2004 Rocks & Minerals magazine Special Issue on Gold.

Above a vial of gold wires which were recovered by Scott during the process of cleaning and preparing specimens from the 180 pound Green Hill boulder. Scott reported that a number of browsers checking out these gold specimens in his room inquired as to whether individual wires from this vial were available for sale.

The label in the case with these Olinghouse District golds stated "price upon request". When I requested it, Scott replied he was offering this entire collection of 20 specimens on a collection only basis for $200,000.

Depicted at left is a gold from another locality, the Alhambra mine, Auburn, California, which was also shown by Scott. This specimen of crystallized gold in quartz is approximately 3 inches overall and weighs in at 193 grams. This one wanted $6000 to go home.
