GEMS, MINERALS, AND JEWELRY STUDY UNIT
         Chartered June 29, 1976 by the American Topical Association

PURPOSE:  To collect and study philatelic material portraying the various 
aspects of gems, minerals, jewelry, and fossils and to communicate this 
knowledge to Unit members and other interested persons.

MEMBERSHIP:  Application for membership should be submitted in writing to the 
Unit Secretary/Treasurer and accompanied by dues for at least one year (four 
issues). To join the Gems, Minerals, and Jewelry Study Unit, ATA membership 
is not required but is encouraged.

DUES:  Annually $10 in USA and Canada, $15 elsewhere. Whenever a member 
joins, he/she receives all back issues of the bulletin of that current volume.

PUBLICATIONS:  PHILAGEMS INTERNATIONAL, a quarterly bulletin of 12 to 16 pages 
features articles, reports, and checklists covering all phases of gems, 
minerals, and jewelry. Back issues are available. Contact Secretary/Treasurer
for details.

CHECKLISTS:  A continuously up-dated master checklist covering gems, minerals, 
jewelry and other related topics listed on the GMJ ID Code list is available 
from the Sec/Treasurer for $5. Individual printouts of sub-topics from the 
GMJ ID Code list are $1 each. Mineral specimens arranged alphabetically by 
type also available for $1.

MINERAL FORMULAS:  A complete list of mineral specimens on stamps with their 
chemical formulas is available for $3.

ACTIVITIES & BENEFITS:  Auctions of relevant material are held periodically. 
Free ads in the bulletin for members seeking to buy, sell, or trade. Directory
of members and addresses to aid correspondence.
