Fluorite occurs commonly as cubic, octahedral and dodecahedral crystals in highly variable colors ranging from colorless and completely transparent to yellow, green, blue, purple, pink or black. Crystals may be large and penetration twins are fairly common. Fluorite often fluoresces in ultraviolet light.
