- Calcite is a very broadly distributed mineral formed under a wide range of conditions. It is found as
sedimentary limestone and chalk, as metamorphic marble derived from limestone and dolomite, and as travertine
precipitated from thermal springs and other surface waters. Calcite is often spectacular in its occurrence
as stalactites and stalagmites.
