Tom, welcome to the madness. To statt with, a couple of pics posted on this site in the Photo Gallery would be great in helping to identify the type of agate inside your find. Geodes can be either solid, filled with crystals, or a combo of both. Polished halves when a solid geode is cut make beautiful displays. And can be quite valuable depending on the inside material. "Cracked open" geodes can also be polished if solid or displayed as is if filled with crystals - though many of the crystals will be destroyed if cracked into too many pieces, a danger using the hammer method to see what's inside.
