Re: Rockhound State Park, Deming NM

I stop at Deming a couple of times a year, the area around the park is quite safe. Collecting at the park is sparse and requires lots of walking, now is a good time as winter rains expose new material. One of the best places to collect is right out side the park, when you approach the cattle guard at the entrance, park on the left and take a look in the wash, I have found some nice material there, even a couple of small intact geodes and broken ones that have washed down from the mountain. On the way to the park you will pass right by the Geode Kid's Rock Shop (you can't miss his solar panels), also check out his geode collection at the museum in town, its one of the finest in the world, in my opinion.
