I haven't a clue Alex. It looks like it could have been used for something like that. Honestly though, that thought had occured to me. But given the time period I doubt that those early inhabitants of this continent used saddles, I could be wrong about that though. But the experts at the Cranbrook Institute hadn't the slightest idea as to what it could have been used for. They and us can only speculate as to it's intended use. One thing I do know is that I need to get back to where I found it and have a good look around. It is possible that there may be other artifacts in the area. For all I know it may have come from an old burial site. If that should prove itself out I would feel the need to put it back to rest. I'm certain it fell out from an undercut of a bank. Again, I haven't had the chance to get back there to look around a bit more. For all you rockhounders, rivers and streams are always a good place to have a look around. The annual onslaught of torrent waters brings many things to light. Whether it be lapidary material or artifacts.
