Newbie question about a Si Carbide Wheel X 2

I am very new to lapidary and have acquired an older Highland Park E10 combo unit. It seems to be in rather good condition. However, the Silicon Carbide wheels have staining on them that seem to indicate that part of each wheel remained in water/lubricate for a period of time. The wheels are dry now and have been for months. Is the general consensus that these wheels are at risk of flying apart if used? Should I use them or buy new? Please help.
