Bob, I can't argue with that. I was merely suggesting possibilties as to what it could be. I don't remember anyone mentioning a scratch test. The caption to the photo submission simply stated that they were found in a gravel parking lot. I'm assuming you are offering that up as a simple test for Jon to do to help in identifying the material. The material that I had mentioned that I had found also has bubbles and conchoidal fracture. But using the picks in the Mineralab test kit the scratching doesn't start until I use the number 8 pick, to me that clearly indicates a hardness above 7. To make sure of the results while using the number 7 pick, I tested it several times over on many different locations on the pieces even after verifying the sharpness of the pick. If Jon's material scratches with the metal then I would certainly lean toward agreeing with Becky's thoughts as to what it is.
