If it was me I would head south and find whatever creeks and streams I could and check the gravel bars for anything that looked interesting such as agates, jaspers and geodes. If he doesn't mind getting his feet wet he could walk the creeks and streams keeping an eye on the banks, you never know what may be just about to pop out and end up in the water. Also if there are any county or township gravel pits he could spend some time there looking as well. As for any quarries in that area I haven't a clue. You guys could also check Google Earth and possibly hone in on some areas that may produce. I'm not sure as to what your state laws allow for recreational hounding, you might try checking your state website under DNR (that is what it is called here in Michigan), as an example mich.gov/dnr for Michigan. It may be the same for Indiana, indiana.gov/dnr. There should be information there relating to surface collecting. Beyond that maybe someone else will have some ideas for you guys. Good luck!
