If you recall some time ago I submitted 2 photos of a piece of rock that contained some reddish pink crystals. One photo was taking under normal lighting conditions and the other under a black light. The crystals glowed a very nice reddish pink under the blacklight. Not knowing what they were I asked for help to identify them. To date I am still unsure of their type. I have been in the process of removing some of them with a diamond bur and so far I have about a dozen of them removed. The largest to date is 11.35 cts. These are not facet grade crystals rather cab grade. One in particular I have been slowly working into a small high dome cab. As I am working it it is becoming very clear that this/these crystals display a cat's eye effect. Having said that would you think that this would be an attribute leaning more towards a corundum rather than a spinel, which were the two possibilities suggested in my previous post. Also I have yet to remove any crystal that has the perfect tapering terminations of a corundum. I have only grazed the surface of this piece and so I am anticipating many more before I am done. Another observation of the crystals is that they appear to have a stacked plate structure, this may explain the cat's eye effect when oriented properly, not quite sure. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you are willing to share.
