Well, I can't answer your question but I would like to have that answer myself. I have collected them for years. They fascinate me. They come in great shapes. I have one that is shaped like a mushroom, one like a tornado, one like and egg, etc... I must have at least a 100 of them and all but about 3 are still intact. I think I"ll contact a geologist for more information.
