I agree with Bob ...there is a material called "water glass"..sodium silicate..which was used to seal eggs and keep them fresh ....y e a r s ago!...(this is just more FYI than practical, however), when dry, it is brushed with a solution of Calcuium Chloride to make it waterproof...works great on small cracks on bottles..heat it to expel internal air, cork mouth, apply solution, and the pressuere difference will "pull" the soluton into the crack...

Ideally, you want to use acetone/benzene to clean the rough, put it in a thinned epoxy bath,in a pressure chamber, and let it set under pressure..hmmm..how to get the waste epoxy off the rock now??....
