Stone that I can't identify...
I came across this lovely site and thought those others that peruse it and are more knowledgeable than I might be able to help me. I've been making wire wrap jewelry for some time now, and am going through my old collection of stones, which, of course, I either have forgotten what they are, or simply never was able to identify them. All that said, I believe I have been able to correctly identify all but one of them.
This stone is very dark coloured--I want to say the base colour is black,- but it is difficult to say for certain, as one side of it seems to have a translucent top layer, revealing a lighter layer beneath with small dark purple veins streaking it, making the surrounding colour appear dark blue or indigo. On the opposite side is a large (in relation) yellow-brown circle, with a thin reddish ring in the centre of that.
I know description is not as good as a picture, but I hope that is detailed enough to garner at least some suggestions I can look into more. The closest thing I've been able to find is possibly a rainbow obsidian, but it doesn't go through an array of colours in a ring--only those described.
Any and all help identifying this bugger of a stone will be greatly appreciated! I prefer to be able to positively identiffy (at least 95%) a stone before I sell it.
