Tim, I know of several places along Lake Huron here in Michigan that there is a lot of material that looks very similar to what you have. If you break through the exterior of the nodules they appear identical to what you have. I am not a geologist so I haven't any knowledge as to their identity or what they are called. They do have what appears to be iron oxide staining, however I have never taken a magnet to them so I don't know if they are ferrous or not. I have found many of them along creek banks that lead into the lake. So I am inclined to believe that your piece is not a meteor at all but some sort of localized deposit. But I could be wrong. Just my 2 cents, Ward.
