Cleaning Selenite?

I have one of those fish tail Selenites from Mexico. It has been outside and is now covered in chalky Selenite (Gypsum). I want to clean it so it looks clear and sparkly like the mexican ones sold at Gem shows. I guess they soak them in acid. Does anyone know how to clean the chalky stuff off to reveal the crystal?
Thanks
