The best instructions I have ever seen are in a small volume called Modern Rock Tumbling, it is a small paperback, and sells for about $25, but it is worth every penny. As I said, absolutely the best instructions I have ever seen on tumbling.

You can get it at littleredstore.com (they also have grit, polish, etc, at a very reasonable price)

I did a batch of pea-sized tears a few months ago following his instructions, and they turned out wonderful-no breakage, no cracks, no spalling, and with a very high polish.

I think probably the most important thing is to use a high ratio of cushioning material. I used about half tears and half plastic beads.
