Extrusive Igneous ID help in Northern MN
Hi, I just posted three pictures. My son found this rock on the Iron Range, in northern MN. It's quite heavy--nearly 6 pounds. We are not rock hounds by even the loosest definition, but this rock is very intriguing. Its dark color can probably be attributed to years of soaking in the iron-rich waters of the Range; however, the rock is not magnetic. There don't seem to be any smaller stones embedded in the rock, only the lighter material that has filled in some of the holes which seems "sandy" but rock hard. Any help would be much appreciated!
