It would be hard to completely clean the oil off the opals. I once had a woman ask me to clean hand lotion off her opal ring. I did this with Dawn Dishwashing soap and then used rubbing alcohol to finish the job. Opals should never be put in oil because it will close the pores of the stone. Opal needs to have a cold water bath which will bring the fire back into the opal.
