Best Tumbler Polish?

Hello, My son and I have several baches of rocks that are ready for the polish stage. My question is what is a good "all purpose" polish? We have mostly rocks that we have collected from the Wallowa and Minum rivers in NE Oregon. We also have a variety of rocks that we got from an eldery relative. So we do not know exactly what kind of rock but no soft rocks like obsidian and such. Is aluminum oxide a good all around polish? I have also seen aluminum oxide described as a pre polish. Would cerium oxide be a better polish, or a combination of both? We would be happy with shiny 'wet appearing' rocks. A very shiny polish would be even better (like the commercially sold rocks in tourist stores). Thank you for your help with this, it is a pretty basic question compared to most on the forum. Also, does anyone know of a rock hounding club in Central Oregon - the Bend or Redmond areas?
