Chris, Have you considered just using a Foredom or Grobet type motor with the flex shaft and diamond bits. I suspect you have one from your goldsmithing days. I have used mine in that way to do cutouts of agate and jasper. I run it relatively slow so as to have good control and always cutting in water to keep it very cool and the dust down. You also have quite an option as to the bit sizes and shapes available. It would also be just the ticket to do your prepolish and polish with on those tight areas. Just a thought.
