I oftentimes use floor wax thinned out a little with water. Makes a nice shine even after dried. Doesn't last as long as clear epoxy mentioned but not much work to clean and reapply another coat and with less mess than with clear epoxy. Especially if just for a quick display. Go with the epoxy if you look for a longer lasting effect.

I do this wax method mostly when I want to show stuff I collected out in the boonies as a show and tell at my rock club. So easy to do. Brings out the natural color of the rocks and decision may be better made whether any of them have lapidary possibilities.
