Re: Re: Arizona Mining & Mineral Museum closing

Hi Dick,
You may remember me. I was for some years president of the Mingus Gem and Mineral Club, and their newsletter editor for seven years. I am an Honorary Life Memeber of both the Mingus Club and the Verde River Rockhounds.
I am sitting on the banks of the Wooli River in New South Wales catching up on various websites and blogs that I have not visited for several months. During those months I have moved to Australia to live, and to fossick.
I want to tell you how much I admire your efforts to keep the Mining and Mineral Museum open and to urge you to keep up the campaign.
Siiting here, from such a distance, it is very difficult to comprehend how awful the closure decision is; a very bad example of corrupt American politics. Any politician trying on the same thing here in Australia would be exposed, ridiculed and houded out of office, not by other politicians but by ordinary people.
It is unfortunate that so many people who could combine to stop the closure are old (as in the case of rockhounds) have more pressing problems (educationalists) or want to keep on the sweet side of the Brewer witch (mining companies).
I suppose a day of mass rockhound protest, at the Capitol, everyone armed with (and prepared to use) a rock hammer, is out of order?
I fear there is nothing I can do from half a world away, but I wish you well,
Regards,
Peter Martin
