Ethiopian Opal (Welo)

Was looking for some advice on working this material. Recently purchased some and if I so much as look at it crosseyed it fractures. As you may very well know it absorbs moisture rather quickly, is the fracturing caused by the drying? I'm not noticing the fracturing until I have allowed the piece(s) to sit for a bit. As if to allow the fracture to dry I'm thinking. Am I perhaps starting with to course of grit (220) miracle lap. I would normally work it on my cabbing unit but that is in storage at the moment, so I am left with a flat style procedure. I am flushing with ample amounts of water while working it so I don't believe overheating to be the culprit. Anyway, if you have the answers I am looking for I would sure appreciate it, thanks.
