Yes but the Athabascon (?) complex that the precious opalized sandstone was weathering out of is extensively eroded so the harder opalized outcrops are the remaining outcrops and hard pockets are now float. I want to say the site itself from Eds little minesite for louisianna opal was on Boise Pacific timber land up from Toole Bend Resevoir (on the border with texas). There are a couple notes from the local clubs on collecting in a river through there on the web.
