Re: cleaning a fossil ?

If the fossil has not been coated with a sealer (varnish, wax, etc.) a quick dip and swish in Acetone should get rid of the grease. Acetone is available at Walmart, paint, and hardware stores. A foil or glass container should be used. Acetone is very flamable and not good to breathe, so this is an outdoor project.
Good Luck.

I am pleased to offer some of my finest mineral specimens. Some of them were released, many years ago, from major museums and significant private collections.
