Re: Re: Suggestions for these large purple rocks ive found

Heh sure give me a few days. This stuff is pretty abundant around here, however that doesn't mean it's not fairly cool looking. Most people just have the run of the mill pink ones in their yards, which I have also, but I guess there's just a thrill of walking thru Kansas hills and finding purple rocks, lol. The 2 I thought were jasper, I am not so sure one is not a meteorite it is very heavy for it's size. One of them is very holey and pitted like, looks like it had been molten. Probably just a molten rock, lol I don't really know.

Well at any rate I think I am done dragging this stuff home for awhile, it's not going anywhere and a farmer that helped me load some big pieces yesterday told me of whole entire field littered with this stuff.

However, I was out in the woods mushroom hunting today(didn't find any im probably just a few days early) and came across a nice purple piece with white stripes that's about the size of a basketball. It was just sitting there and didn't need any digging so I loaded it up. I will wet it and try posting pics. According to the net I guess this stuff is used for tiles, etc and a lot of sites don't even mention it being purple. The purple stuff I have seen on the net as of yet isn't nearly as nice as this stuff.

I am pretty close to KU and might be visiting the geology dept. one of these days to discuss exactly what is found around here. I know we had a big glacier thru here, once in awhile I have found brown translucent banded agates and even some stuff that I think might be Lake Superior agates.
