Update on new material from Georgia
A little while back I posted a note about some new material that I had found here in Middle Georgia and was very pleased by the response that I got from the folks out there on Rock Net. I took the advice of many of the posters and contacted the local rock club, the Middle Georgia Gem and Mineral Society, and through that contact met Frank Milner, a local enthusiast, who agreed to look at some of my materials and cut and polish some cabochons from them. He encouraged me to look for larger pieces and perhaps geodes from the area and when I did find larger material he cut some of the pieces for me and we were both pleased with the results. He also identified several unusual pieces of a reddish orange material that I had found in the same area as carnelian and cut several beautiful cabochons from those specimens for me as well. I am posting a couple of photos of slabs from the larger material in the Photo Gallery and want to thank all those who replied to my earlier questions for their information and encouragement. Hopefully there will be more interesting pieces from this find and I certainly look forward to sharing them as they turn up.
