Re: Illustrated Books on Rocks?

Hi Sharlene,

If you are really interested in an excellent photo book on rocks, as opposed to minerals per se, then I can highly recommend "The Complete Guide to Rocks & Minerals" by John Farndon, ISBN 0-681-18581-3, published by Hermes House Inc., copyright 2006.

This is a large size, soft cover, coffee table type book with 256 pages. While it also covers minerals, it is this book's treatment and illustration of rocks that makes it outstanding. I purchased my copy several years ago from the bargain books section one of the major book retailers like Barnes & Noble or B Dalton. While I don't recall the exact price I paid, I do remember being somewhat dumbfounded at its low cost. Being printed in China no doubt has something to do with that...

I have posted a scan of the cover of "The Complete Guide to Rocks & Minerals" to the Rock Net photo gallery:

If you are more interested in a photo collection of minerals, as opposed to rocks per se, then the "Photo Atlas of Minerals" DVD with approximately 16,000 specimen images is a top contender in terms of bang for your buck. It also incorporates reams of mineralogical data, of course:

Keep on Rock'n!
