thanks for your response to my questions on how to clean pet wood-it appears that there are portions of old wood/dirt still caked on the rock itself. Some comes off with a hammer claw but I will try the acid bath (spray on).

Assuming the acid mix cleans the rock, what steps would you advise to polish the rock--there are some really outstanding colored areas, some look like "agates/colored gems" especially in the very middle of the stumps. I am thinking about polishing the flat top of the stumps where we can count the rings and see the true character.
