Thanks for your response Tom and yours too John but until you see the rock it's difficult to appreciate the center hole and it's perfect roundness. I was a Scoutmaster for about 10 years and saw many grinding holes on campouts. This rock does not resemble anything I've ever seen. Every hole I saw was oval or off center and on a rock big enough to sit on while you work. This one is too smooth and small and much too hard. Plus whats exposed to sit on is broken and uncomfortable. The rings were created by rainwater as it sat in my front yard and can be cleaned off. The hole resembles the cavity that would be left behind if a softball had popped out.
I looked up some places where I might take it for analysis. It is a very interesting mystery and I LOVE mysteries.
