Re: Re: Re: Large homemade tumblers- anybody seen one?

Mike, I posted a couple pics. of the 5-gallon barrel tumbler set. Note it doesn't have a belt guard; we run it in a shed out of access to little ones, wouldn't let one off the place w/o a guard. Posted a pic. of a machine I assembled a couple years ago for a fellow club member, he supplied most of the materials. The barrels on this one are 8" and sized to 1 1/2 gallon each. You get an idea of the guard on this one. The screen is from the air cleaners on large Caterpillar log hauling machines. I cut it off filters when they are replaced, and weld it to a band of .060 sheet metal 1 1/2" wide; takes a very light touch w/a 000 [triple ot] torch tip.
We adhere to putting a pound of grit per gallon of tumbler capacity, 5-lbs. per run, with polish about 1/4 to 1/3 less, barrels 3/4 full. Run leather scraps with the polish and soap-burnish runs. Hope this helps. Feel free with any further questions. Hope this helps. Larry
