Hi Richard,

Sounds like they may be Tabasco geodes, although the Tabascos are usually in the 1/2 to 1 inch range. The tabascos usually have a thin agate rind of varying colors, and often some waterlevel agate. The Gem Shop has some on their polished specimen pages--a look at those might help you ID what you have (www.thegemshop.com).
