Re: collecting trip advice

John, I recommend you and your family try Fluorite Ridge near Deming, New Mexico. Just google Fluorite Ridge and to see the collecting site which was open to the public when I last visited the site two years ago. This is an area with several closed fluorite mines. There is plenty of beautiful fluorite in the mine talings and in outcroppings. You can just walk around and pick up fluorite, or chip it out of the hill sides with a light rock hammer and chisels. Fluorite Ridge is easy to get to with any vehicle. As a bonus, this fluorite fluoresces a brilliant blue under a black light.

Caution, watch out for rattlesnakes lurking under the old mining equipment.

Regards, John
