Pictures Out Of Focus

Hi You’ll
Have you every taken a digital picture of a rock or a slab that looked great in that little view screen on the back of your digital camera only to find it out of focus when you down load it to your computer and view it on the monitor?

I have over 1,500 shots I need to take of pieces jewelry.

So my question is has anyone ever used some sort of optical devise hooked directly to their computer so they could view the object directly on their computer monitor. Than if they liked what they see they could save the image on their computer hard drive as a JPG image?

Any help greatly appreciated.
