asbestos in serpentine - how to determine?

Hi,
Recently I was up in a little town called Gasquet on the Smith river. Along a little waterway called Stoney creek I found a nice collection of what I am sure is serpentine.
I did an extensive web search on serpentine types and found that there are three main types, one of which is asbestos bearing.
What I cannot find is a resource that tells me how to identify if the rock I collected falls into that group.
I also am wondering, if in fact what I collected is asbestos bearing, how safe is it to handle-does it have to be in fiber form to be a risk?
I am a jeweler and was thinking of doing a raw serpentine line-I love the color and feel so much!
Any advice? (In advance, thanks!)
