Hi Donn,
You might try smashing bar/body soap after it soaks in water for a while into the cracks and vugs of the stone. Then run as normal. The soap will wash out easily in between each grit, and block the grit from getting into the voids to begin with. Redo the soap after each cycle to avoid contamination.
