A better way to clean?

I am having difficulty in cleaning grit and grit residue from my vibratory lap specimens. Soaking, warm, hot, cold water, with/without liquid dish soap, plastic brushes etc. leave pockets and discoloration, especially in any crystal pockets of my slabs. Would an ultrasonic cleaner help?, and are there any solutions, (acetone) that might make this task a bit easier? Thanks for any advice
