Becky, you may have solved one of humankind's most ancient mysteries! :-) Of course, that makes perfect sense, I was only thinking of the blade and not the entire mechanism. The BLADE needs coolant to protect the diamonds, but the SAW needs lubricant for the mechanical parts. Since no fluid (that I can afford) is good at both, using oil in a slab saw is the best compromise because it lubes the parts and protects the blade by keeping it from cutting too fast. That also explains how people successfully run water in trim saws, there are no moving parts dependent on the cutting fluid, so water is the best option for the blade. Thanks for that info!TCR
