I may have missed it but do not forget that the "coolant" is carrying away the rock particles. It helps to clean the blade or grinder. Since there are not teeth to most blades it keeps the diamonds exposed which are the only thing that is removing rock.

Not sure how effective or needed it is but I have seen systems that allow the particles to settle out. Where there is a series of containers one flowing to the next with the recirculateing pump in the last. I am sure that it helps just not sure how needed it is. Do know that it would save on the materials that are added to water for the diamond wheels.
