Two other things that I think need to be taken into consideration are that when you are slabbing, the diamonds are actually grinding two surfaces, one on either side of the blade. In grinding you are working on only one side. The other issue I think is that the narrow groove a slab saw cuts does not release heat as easily as a piece being ground in the open on a cabbing machine.
