Re: Rock saw power feed rate?

Brian,
I, too, am building/restoring a big slab saw with gear motor power feed, and the consensus that I have been able to come up with so far is 3/16" per minute. That equates to about a foot per hour, but the range I've encountered is anywhere between 9 and 19 inches per hour. I suppose that depends upon the hardness of the rock and cross section being cut. My feed screw is 1/2"-20 thread, and I have mine turning about six RPM maximum, which gives 18 inches per hour. My DC gearmotor can then be slowed down from there, and I will calibrate the different voltage settings with a scale of inches per hour.
