Re: polishing brazilian agate slabs?
Hello Bev, It has been my experience that in order to achieve a fine polish one has to first achieve a near polish finish. Using the proper polish also helps (big time). Not sure as to what procedure you used prior to attemting to polish. Getting all the scratches out from previous grit sizes is the key, as you work yourself up to the final polish. I prefer ending that process with 50,000 then polishing. For agate I like using cerium oxide, I especially like the french cerium as it is called. I believe, but not sure, that it is finer than the standard cerium oxide. A little pricier, but I like the results. I've heard people say that tin oxide works well also. I guess it all boils down to your own experiances. And maybe the pocket book. I hope this helps in some way. Here's to your success.
