Bev, the problem with hand polishing slabs, especially with the hardness of agate, is area and the time required to reach the polished stage. Your best bet, depending on how much material you have to polish, is to look around for a flat lap. A new unit is expensive, but decent used ones can be found on ebay. If you are close to a rockhound club, check with them. Many clubs have equipment shared by members. The club is your best approach if you only have a few slabs to work with.
