Yours is an interesting dilemma. I am not an exhibitor at shows, (rather, I sell).
I love lapidary and maintain a core of personal stuff that I think is beautiful. My stuff weighed against the collections of many folks that I know, doesn't amount to much. Their stuff is clearly better, but mine still gives me pleasure. I find myself always opening drawers and scrutinizing the treasures that I have.
So...I suppose it wise to remember why you started collecting in the first place. And as for having others apreciate what you have; I'm sure that many do.
