Re: Rock saw power feed rate?

Hi Brian
I am in the same spot you are in, I would suggest you take a look at my posting “Is This Stone Vice Speed To Fast? - Bob Place 3/24/2009” if you haven’t already.

I never got a direct answer for that same question. The main drift of the answers I got was that one inch of travel in eleven minutes May be to fast and slower is better.

If you are building your own saw you are sharp enough to work this out. I will tell you the materials I used to make my power-feed and you can put something together that will do the job. The hart of the power-feed is the electric motor I found a Bar-B-Que rotisserie at Home-Depot for around $30. Which worked great even has a bracket to attach it to the saw. Bar-B-Que rotisserie turned to fast around 22 RPM’s so I reducer it down by half with a two cog wheel and a chain (I tried pulleys and belt but they slipped) to 11 RPM’s. The rest was ½ inch thread rod and a ½ inch nut silver soldered to a large metal close-pin type clamp than cut the nut in half for quick release form the ½ inch thread rod. One further note the Bar-B-Que rotisserie has a 3/8 square hole in it to except the rod the meat hangs on. So you will need to have a short piece ½ round stock machined with a 3/8 square on one end to attach the cog wheel to Bar-B-Que rotisserie.
Brian if you don’t mind keep me posted on how this all works out for you.
