Softer, igneous intrusive rocks such as Gabbro, often weather away on the surface, leaving a sandy regolith. Gabbros are mafic, meaning dark in color. Often they are a clue for prospectors, such as the dark, magnetite-bearing sands that indicated the underlying, platinum group elements-bearing prospect known as the Seagull Intrusion, owned by East-West Resources, in Ontario.
