I typically start with a slightly thicker then normal slab. Mark out the shape you want and preform as normal except that no bevel is made. Keep the sides at 90 degrees to the face of the stone. When you have the pleasing shape, Split the stone into two pieces using a thin bladed trim saw. You now have 2 perfectly matched peices, a right and a left with a closely matched patterns as it is possible to get. Dop and finish as normal taking care to make sure that you dop them properly to ensure the sawn faces are face up on both pieces. Bob Johannes The Amethyst Rose
