I saw this place on the travel Channel too and was thinking of going until I read about being locked in. Liability is an issue but it goes both ways. If there is a medical emergency or a forest fire people need to get out of Dodge and should not have to wait for permission from Grandpa. You can't just leave people trapped at the bottom of a valley/gorge. Everyone signing up should be provided a key to escape for any reason. This does sound a bit illegal.
