Re: ultrasonic drill?

Mike, From about 1985, I have been using an IMAHASHI USD, 25 watts power, and have had no trouble from it but for a blown fuse. Its a 60 Hz 120 V unit that I bought from a couple in Texas. The wire drills R 1MM stainless wire, and you do get a little tapering on it as you progress, but I was only drilling 2 to 2.5 mm agate slabs for earrings, and didnt encounter much at that thickness. I know that Mr. Bill Ritter (baritter70@earthlink.net)has some reasonably BEEP ones of 200watt output and hes a good guy to talk to re the quirks, if any. I think that if you cannot buy one on your own, then link with locals that can share the costs. There is NO comparison btween this and rotary diamond drilling! Just get a quant. of prepared horns and youll never have the "drillers elbow" that I was developing!.. take care, .... Tony Goffe, Jamaica W.I. P. S. Yes, Jamaica DOES have more than sea and sand, agates of many patterns and colours, for such a small, limestone-covered island. Visit us!
